Pickering Tennis Inc

For over 30 years now, we have continued the cycle of long term athlete/player development. Players that have started with us as beginners have progressed through the academy levels. Dozens of Alumni have moved on, either to pursue Tennis Scholarships in American Universities, to compete on their Canadian University teams or to develop their own careers in Tennis/Athletic Professional positions.

Academy alumni include Jada Bui having received a tennis scholarship to NCAA Div 1 University of California, Berkeley, and having won WTA points. Raheel Manji reached the Final of the doubles in a $15,000 ATP Futures in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. And Davis Cup alumnus Adil Shamasdin competed on the Canadian team which reached the quarterfinals of the $15,000,000 ATP Cup 2020 in Brisbane and Sydney, Australia.

Our experience in developing National Champions, along with many National and Provincial level junior players, will be drawn upon to help prepare you in the way we've helped the others who have gone on before you.

Weekly training will cover all the important areas of “how” to train, match play, athletic development and mental training. The training season is timed to allow players to peak for different phases of competitive schedule play. The course content is geared towards aspiring, serious, committed players, with a good work ethic and a desire to learn.
If you feel you are up to the challenge, submit a completed application to join our Academy and become a part of the tradition.

Entry Criteria

i) Order of sign up:
First come, first serve is a general principle. We have had to time and date the order of receiving the early application deposits, and this will receive weighting in entry decisions.
Discounts for early registration are given, especially to returning members.

ii) Game assessment:
Game assessments will be carried out for all Tennis Academy prospects during the week of September 8 to 11, 2026. The test lasts for approximately an hour and will be mandatory for returning and new players alike.
The assessment will include tests to measure current skill levels (technical and physical). Other factors in the assessments will be an indication of the player’s potential and consideration of how well they match up with program values of a strong work ethic (while still being able to have some fun), responsibility, respect, and commitment. Appointments are to be made with Dave Ochotta at least one week in advance. There will be no cost for players who have already submitted a complete application.

iii) Recent competitive results:
In order of priority, this would include ITF, Nationals, Provincials, OTA, Intercounty, STF, and/or Local Club events. The most weight will be given to the highest events and more recent results.

iv) Overall match-up with Program Values:
For members accepted to the Pickering Tennis Academy, it is expected that they will represent the Academy with pride and distinction, acting as an ambassador for the Academy in their behaviour and speech.
